Damp, leaks and the mould standard in Truganina rentals
The mould and damp standard requires a rental to be free of mould and damp caused by the building. Where it usually starts.
In short: Mould in a rental is often blamed on the renter. The standard asks whether the building is the cause.
What the standard requires
A rental must be free from mould and damp caused by or related to the building structure. Condensation from daily living is treated differently from a leak.
Where building related damp starts
Failed sealant, cracked wet area tiles, leaking showers and roof leaks all let water into places it cannot dry. Each one can lead to mould.
How we check
We read stains with a moisture meter, photograph mould, and note the likely building cause where one is visible.
Fixing it
Fix the water source first, then treat the mould. Repainting over a damp patch only hides it.
